Understanding Invisalign

August 17, 2018

As many of you may know we are currently offering Invisalign clear aligner therapy in our office. We are so excited to be able to offer this service to our patients. Along with creating the perfect smile, the benefits of correcting your bite are also outstanding. With using the latest technology, we are able to make this quite a simple process by implementing the Itero scanner. The Itero scanner allows us to take a 3D scanned image of your teeth, so no impressions are needed to create your aligners. We can also use this image to create a simulation model of how your teeth will look after they are aligned. This is a great tool to help you see what could be possible and to see if there is any changes you would want to make with the final results. Check out our video below to see how the scan operates.

There are so many benefits to aligning your teeth. Teeth that are crowded or misaligned are more difficult to clean and can lead to poor periodontal health. When your teeth are overlapping this makes it very difficult to brush, which also makes these areas more prone to tooth decay because plaque is not being removed effectively.  This can damage the bone and gums and result in loss of the tooth. In addition to potential periodontal improvement, straightening your teeth properly distributes even biting forces and prevents uneven wear, which can weaken teeth. By evenly distributing pressure this also reduces further gum recession.

If you believe you would benefit from treatment, Dr. Crane and your hygienist are able to discuss those options with you. The consult allows us to see the progress that can be made, as well as determine which level of treatment will best suit your case. We will provide you with a free consultation to help you determine if this treatment is right for you.

Invisalign offers three different levels of Invisalign: Express, Lite and Full. The length of treatment is determined by how many aligners are required. Invisalign Lite can sometimes be a great option even when little movement is needed. The length of treatment that benefits you the best will be determined based on how much tooth movement is needed and how many aligners you need to reach your desired outcome.

Once you complete your Invisalign therapy, we will fabricate Vivera retainers for you. Retention is a very important aspect in correcting your bite. The retainers are very similar to your alignment trays by being clear and easy to wear without being noticed. As with any type of Orthodontic treatment our teeth continue to move throughout our lives.  Without the use of retainers your teeth will most likely shift causing you to lose the results that you have obtained.

If you think Invisalign is right for you or you want to know more about it, please ask us at your next dental visit. Or feel free to call us today to schedule a consultation! (253)863-2995.
